There will always be a need in the music industry for individuals like Shatek King. Whether he’s behind the boards making street bangers or traveling state-to-state shooting music videos, this New York native’s path keeps getting brighter by the day.

Shatek was born in South Jamaica, Queens and raised by his grandmother and aunts. Growing up, he found himself surrounded by hustlers. Though he didn’t follow that unpredictable route, he did adopt its followers’ mentality. After becoming drawn to the instrumentals of a song as a teenager, Shatek decided to pursue production as a career. He was 17 when he began making beats. His first major placement was with DMC of the legendary Run DMC on a song called “Cold.” Next up was his production on the “G-Unit Anthem.” It was DMX’s “X Gon Give It To Ya” that gained him the status of a platinum producer.

Though Shatek continues to make beats, he has turned his hobby of filming into his next career move. In 2010, he began practicing, filming and editing with his Flip camera. Soon after business started pouring in as he began shooting videos for many local Queens artists. He was able to upgrade his camera to a DSLR and from there to a Red Scarlet. As the owner and director of his production company BeatsOnFilm, he has had the opportunity to work with a number of mainstream artists including Drake, Joe Budden, and Fabolous in just two and half years. His visuals have received worldwide attention. His work has been seen on BET’s 106 & Park and MTV. One of these videos being DJ Absolut’s "Untouchable" featuring Ace Hood, French Montana and Pusha-T, which has garnered close to 1 million views on YouTube.

"Whether it’s money or time, it’ll all come back in some form." says Shatek, thinking back on his career. "A lot of people out there don’t invest in their careers and that’s why they only go but so far." It is that mind-state and his skill set that has afforded him the success he has reached so far. Keep your eyes open and your ears tuned in. Shatek will continue to be the man behind your favorite hits and visuals.
